The Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) welcomed representatives from Quanzhou Vocational and Technical University (QVTU) and Liming Vocational University (LVU) in Jinjiang, Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, for a courtesy visit and campus tour on 28 September 2023.

The ADDU delegation, led by the University President, Fr. Karel S. San Juan, SJ, met the guests, along with Mr. Jeremy S. Eliab, Executive Vice President; Prof. Shenglin Zhang, Chinese Director of ADDU – Confucius Institute (CI); Dr. Maricar Gay V. Panda, Filipino Director of ADDU – Confucius Institute; Mr. Jeremy Glenn A. Tuvida, Assistant Dean of the Humanities and Letters Cluster from the School of Arts and Sciences; and Mr. Romulo Vinci R. Bueza, Director of the Ateneo Internationalization for Mindanao Office and Member of CI Board of Advisors.

Representatives from QVTU included Wu Binru, President; Wang Huan, International Affairs Director; and Yang Yincong, Publicity Director. They were also joined by representatives from LVU, which included Wang Feng, President; Zhang Qinghai, Vice Dean of the School of New Materials and Shoes and Clothing Engineering; Huang Zhiqing, Deputy Director of the Center for Foreign Exchange; and Zeng Xiaoguang, Chief of the Liaison Department of the Party and Government Office.

The visit of the two universities is aimed at establishing cooperation with ADDU  in each other’s strong disciplines and areas of research and application. LVU excels in programs such as Polymer Material Processing Technology, Interior Design Technology, and Architectural Engineering Technology. Meanwhile, ADDU’s School of Engineering has robust programs and even offers doctoral studies.

President Wang Feng of LVU expressed his interest in future exchange and cooperation with AdDU in the field of engineering for students and faculty. Quanzhou Vocational and Technical University’s strengths include automotive testing and maintenance technology, e-commerce, digital media technology, etc.

Apart from the courtesy visit, the ADDU delegation attended the Fifth Anniversary Celebration of the Friendship Between Jinjiang, China, and Davao, Philippines, in the afternoon at Dusit Thani Residence Davao.

The event was sponsored by the Jinjiang Municipal People’s Government and the Davao City Government and organized by the Foreign Affairs Office of Jinjiang Municipal People’s Government, Jinjiang Municipal People’s Government Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, Jinjiang Municipal Commerce Bureau, Jinjiang Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, Quanzhou Higher Education Development Center, and Quanzhou Jinjiang International Airport Co., Ltd.

During the event, Fr. Karel S. San Juan, SJ, ADDU President, and Wu Binru, QVTU President, signed the “Cooperative Education Agreement between ADDU and QVTU.” The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) means that the two universities will carry out a series of cooperation in the future to foster academic mobility, advance the development of vocational and technical education, and promote language learning programs.
