Ateneo de Davao University had the honor of welcoming His Excellency Endo Kazuya, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of the Philippines, as part of the celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Normalization of Philippine-Japan Relations.

The visit began with a courtesy call with University President Fr. Karel S. San Juan, SJ, which served as a meaningful dialogue that welcomed the Ambassador and reaffirmed the strong ties between the University and Japan.

The Ambassador also met with selected Ateneo Japanese Language students during a class observation, offering a glimpse into the everyday spaces where learning and cultural exchange take place.

The highlight of the visit was the keynote lecture, “Weaving the Future Together: Peace, Prosperity, Possibilities,” held at the Bapa Benny Tudtud Auditorium. In his talk, Ambassador Endo shared key initiatives of the Japanese Embassy in strengthening and sustaining its partnership with the Philippines, particularly in areas of development, education, and people-to-people connections. His message emphasized the importance of mutual trust, cooperation, and shared responsibility in shaping a more peaceful and prosperous future.

More than a commemoration, the visit served as a reminder that relationships between nations are continually built through dialogue and shared purpose. Especially here in Mindanao, where the work of peace and development continues, these moments of encounter carry deeper meaning, inviting us to reflect on how we, too, can contribute to building bridges across cultures and communities.
