The Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) recognizes Dr. Christine Faith M. Avila, a faculty member of the Communications Department, along with alumni Janna Matanguihan, Lady Libres, and Aldy Racanday, for representing Mindanao at the 30th Asian Media Information and Communication Center (AMIC) Research Conference. The event was held from 24 to 26 September 2024, at the Communication University of China in Beijing.

The AMIC conference is one of Asia’s premier platforms for communication and journalism professionals, scholars, and students. This year’s event brought together leading higher education institutions from across Asia to collaborate on research and discuss the future of communication education in the region. The conference highlighted significant research in communication and journalism, with ADDU’s delegation actively contributing to these discussions.

The AMIC conference emphasized the importance of internationalization and transnationalization as essential strategies in education today. These approaches focus on integrating global perspectives into academic programs and facilitating cross-border partnerships.

ADDU is also now a member of AMIC, which positions the university for new opportunities in partnerships, including collaborative research and journal publications, faculty and student exchange programs, offshore course offerings and curriculum enhancement, internships and scholarships for students, and the development of innovative teaching and learning materials.

The conference also included the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) between institutions such as the Communication University of China and Van Lang University, Vietnam. These agreements focus on areas of shared academic interest to address challenges in communication education, including the adaptation to digital advancements and the promotion of diversity and inclusion in academic programs.

ADDU’s membership in AMIC and its involvement in the conference represent a significant step forward in advancing communication and journalism education. We would like to congratulate the Communications Department for showcasing its research and look forward to building on the momentum gained from this event to further the communication field, contributing to Mindanao, the country, and the world.
