The Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) proudly marked its presence at the 15th Global Leadership Program (GLP), hosted by Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan, from 4 to 8 August 2025. Representing ADDU was Justin T. Felicia, a 3rd year BS Education major in Social Studies student.

With the theme “Education and Cross-border Cooperation for Sustainable Development,” the GLP gathered 49 student delegates from eight Jesuit universities across Asia Pacific to reflect on education’s role in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on inclusive and equitable quality education.

Mr. Felicia shared ADDU’s initiatives under Fortiores 2030, the University Strategic Plan, featuring projects such as the establishment of a senior high school in Lake Sebu, the culturally sensitive curriculum developed with Xavier Learning Community, Thailand, and collaborative efforts in Jesuit education in Myanmar.

Throughout the week, participants engaged in keynote lectures, cultural exchanges, field visits, and collaborative workshops with institutions such as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Ina Gakuen Junior High School in Saitama. The program culminated in group proposals on innovative Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) models, including teacher-centered frameworks and AI-powered lesson planning tools.

Reflecting on his experience, Mr. Felicia remarked that the program deepened his conviction to pursue quality education and good governance, noting that “true leadership is not about authority or position, but about serving others with humility, integrity, and a commitment to the common good.”

The Ateneo Internationalization for Mindanao Office facilitated ADDU’s participation, supporting the university’s commitment to nurturing globally engaged leaders.
