The Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) and member institutions attended the CEO Meeting of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities in Asia Pacific (AJCU-AP) on 25 – 28 August 2024, at The Beijing Center for Chinese Studies, School of International Education, University of International Business and Economics, Beijing, People’s Republic of China. The Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) was represented by Fr. Antonio M. Basilio, SJ, Vice President for Higher Education, and Mr. Romulo Vinci R. Bueza, Executive Assistant to the President and Director of the Ateneo Internationalization for Mindanao Office.
The meeting began with a presentation on AI and Education by Fr. Johnny Go, SJ, of Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines, followed by a panel discussion on promoting mental health, moderated by Fr. Bagus Laksana, SJ, of Sanata Dharma University, Indonesia. The agenda also included presentations on the International Association of Jesuit Universities (IAJU) Strategic Plan 2024-2028 and various AJCU-AP projects, such as the recently concluded 13th AJCU-AP Service Learning Program hosted by Ateneo de Davao University, Philippines, and the Global Leadership Program hosted by Sanata Dharma University, Indonesia.
On the second day, the meeting featured additional presentations, including those on partnerships with The Beijing Center and the Leadership and Friendship Retreat, both presented by Dr. Simon Koo. Fr. Johnny Go, SJ, also reported on Ignatian Leadership in Higher Education Training and the Magis Microcredentials initiative. Other discussions covered Collaborative Online International Learning, the successful conclusion of the Building Bridges Across Asia Pacific project, and the work of the Democracy and Human Rights Task Force. These programs and projects emphasized the network’s commitment to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing among its members.
The AJCU-AP CEO meeting concluded with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, followed by a guided tour and fellowship, strengthening ties and reinforcing the shared mission of the Jesuit educational institutions across the Asia Pacific.
