The Online Global Culture Exchange (OGCE) 2023, hosted by the Department of English Literature at Sultan Agung Islamic University (UNISSULA) in Indonesia, proved to be an enriching and eye-opening experience. From 23-27 October 2023, I had the privilege of engaging with individuals from diverse corners of the world, fostering cross-cultural understanding and deepening my appreciation for the richness of global traditions.

The event provided a unique platform for participants from countries such as Nigeria, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Mongolia, India, Cambodia, and many more. Through a series of activities and interactions, we had the opportunity to share and celebrate our cultural heritage. The program was conducted entirely online, allowing us to connect and learn about one another from the comfort of our own homes.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the OGCE 2023 was the opportunity to share our cultural traditions. Participants shared insights into their celebrations, greetings, prayers, and culinary traditions. As I interacted with people from various nations, it became evident that each culture had unique customs and practices. What struck me the most was the realization that every nationality has diverse traditions, often very different from our own.

The event encouraged us to explore deeper into the stories and reasons behind these traditions. It allowed us to understand the cultural, historical, and social contexts that shaped these practices. This process of exploration and discovery fostered a sense of empathy and appreciation for the traditions of others.

The OGCE 2023 was not just an event but a profound journey of self-discovery and intercultural learning. It broadened my horizons, making me more open, understanding, and appreciative of the diverse traditions and practices that enrich our world. It served as a testament to the power of cultural exchange in fostering global harmony and unity. This experience has profoundly influenced my perspective, emphasizing that the world offers a rich diversity of cultures ready to be both explored and appreciated.
