Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU)’s annual Ateneolympics kicked off on 11 March 2023, featuring employees from all units competing in various sports. The event serves as a vital component of ADDU’s Health and Wellness Program, which aims to promote the physical, mental, and social well-being of its employees.

Apart from fostering camaraderie and teamwork, the Ateneolympics also provides an opportunity for the employees to maintain their physical fitness and overall health. The competition comprised different sports disciplines, such as basketball, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, chess, and swimming.

ADDU’s Health and Wellness Program recognizes the importance of healthy and happy employees, who tend to be more productive, engaged, and motivated. The program features several initiatives and activities to promote well-being, such as health screenings, wellness talks, fitness classes, and counseling services. The Ateneolympics is just one of the many programs under the Health and Wellness Program, which encourages employees to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle.

The opening ceremony of the Ateneolympics was a festive and colorful affair, with employees from various units parading in their uniforms. The athletes took the oath of sportsmanship, committing to upholding the values of fair play, respect, and integrity. University officials and guests gave inspiring speeches, highlighting the event’s importance in promoting employee well-being.

The competition will last for several days, featuring intense matches and exciting finishes, with faculty and non-teaching personnel displaying their skills, determination, and grit. While the winners received medals, all participants were acknowledged and applauded for their effort and sportsmanship.

The Ateneolympics is an excellent example of how wellness initiatives can be integrated into ADDU’s employee engagement strategy. By offering opportunities for physical activity, social interaction, and personal growth, the program seeks to foster a positive workplace culture and enhance the well-being of employees. Moreover, the event fosters a sense of community and belonging among the employees, reinforcing the university’s core values of magis (excellence), cura personalis (care for the whole person), and Ignatian spirituality.
