The Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU), through the University Research Council, celebrates the 5th Research and Publication Recognition on 17 February 2023 at the Bapa Benny Tudtud Auditorium, Ateneo de Davao University. The ceremony is held every three years to recognize, honor, and celebrate our research-engaged and published University personnel.

Sixty-one (61) faculty and staff got officially involved in any one of the stages of the entire processes of any of the episodes or editions of the University-funded survey series and special mapping projects;

Forty (40) faculty members and staff carried out and completed Twenty (20) official research projects;

Eighty-three (83) members of the University community published a book or an article in a journal, including Twenty-two (22) who published in at least one internationally recognized scientific journal;

Twenty (20) faculty members were Editors and Reviewers in a book or journal;

Five (5) engaged in research dissemination via reading a research paper at a national or international conference;

Seventeen (17) special awards to individual persons and offices;

Two (2) faculty members  secured the Intellectual Property Protection and Utility Model for their work;

Six (6) Jesuit Fathers have accomplished research, published books or articles in journals, and one has earned Intellectual Property Protection for a formula or procedure; and

Thirty-two (32) are cited authors of articles in Internationally Recognized Scientific Journals.

A total of 177 individuals and offices received 288 recognitions. Various awardees received recognition multiple times.

Special recognition was given to published faculty with the highest h-index and with the highest number of citations. Dr. Alejandro H. Espera, Jr was recognized as Most Cited with seventeen published works in different international scientific journals indexed in Scopus, garnering an h-index of 8. This means that eight of the seventeen published articles have each earned at least fifteen citations. His most cited article is, “Mechanical characterization of 3D-printed polymers,” with 725 citations. In sum, the articles earned 1,211 citations in 1,114 documents.

Dr. John Burkentley Ong was recognized with the Highest H-index, whose thirteen published works in different international scientific journals indexed in Scopus got an h-index of 9. This means that the nine published articles have each earned at least nine citations. His most cited article is, “Scientists analyze recent Philippine landslide,” with 33 citations. In sum, the articles earned 202 citations from 164 documents.

University President Fr. Joel E. Tabora, SJ, was honored for “His dedication to unleashing the potential of research, publication, and innovation has resulted in the allocation of crucial resources, positioning the University as a force to reckon with in Instruction, Research, and Engagement. His wise stewardship has elevated the University to new heights.”

In her closing remarks, Dr. Lourdesita S. Chan, chair of the University Research Council, thanked the Ateneo community for supporting the University’s Research thrust that privileges Mindanao. She further avers, “This community’s intellectual strength and passion, and the fiscal and other technological resources at its disposal, braced by God’s power, made today’s recognition ceremony possible.”
