The Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) was invited to be among the handful state and local universities, colleges, and private higher education institutions (HEIs) to workshop the newly developed quality assurance framework for internationalization and help review the policy paper on English-medium education for Philippine HEIs. The workshop was on English-medium Education (EME) and Quality Standards for Internationalisation of Higher Education (IHE) and Transnational Education (TNE), which was held in Miriam College Henry Sy Sr. Innovation Centre, Quezon City, last 24 February 2023.
ADDU was represented by its Department of Languages and Literature and Arts (DLLA), Ateneo Language Center, and the Ateneo Internationalization for Mindanao (AIM) Office through the following delegates: Dr. Stella Marie Arcenas, Chair, Department of Languages, Literature and Arts (DLLA); Dr. Benedict Omblero, Director, Ateneo Language Center; Dr. Josyl Aquilam, DLLA Faculty; Prof. Shiela Guinal, DLLA Faculty; and Ms. Fatima Jennae Jereza, Assistant Director, Ateneo Internationalization for Mindanao (AIM) Office.
Towards the end of the workshop, the participants were able to appreciate global and regional trends in policy and programme development in EME and their implications for Philippine higher education. The group was also able to articulate the relationship of standards of EME within the emerging framework for quality assurance (QA) for IHE and TNE in the Philippines. Ultimately, everyone was able to help analyze the suitability, validity, and practicality of the proposed QA tool for IHE and TNE in the Philippines. The said QA assessment for IHE and TNE is expected to be rolled out soon after editions and suggestions from the workshop are incorporated.
