Dr. David J. Kendall is an Associate Professor of Music at La Sierra University in Riverside, California, USA. Dr. Kendal is the author of “The Music of the Spheres in the Western Imagination,” published this year by Lexington Books. He is currently on sabbatical leave to perform archival research in the colonial churches of the Eastern and Western Visayas and Northern Mindanao.

The first learning session on Bentness as a Literary Device was hosted by the Department of Languages, Literature, and Arts last 23 September 2022. Meanwhile, the second learning session on Ancient Greco-Roman Cosmology and Literature was hosted by the Philosophy Department last 14 October 2022.

The third session of the lecture series will be conducted in November 2022 on Music as Creation and Destruction in Lewis and Tolkien to be hosted by the Ateneo Internationalization for Mindanao (AIM) Office.

In this learning session, we are invited to learn about the universe sung into existence in C.S. Lewis’ world of Narnia and J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, both of which have fictional universes created through music with parallels between consonance and light vis-à-vis dissonance and darkness.

Stay tuned for more details.
