In line with the International Studies (IS) Month celebration, the Ateneo International Studies Students Organization (AISSO) conducted an academic webinar entitled: “Islamic Finance in Southeast Asia: Through the Lens of International Political Economy” via Zoom on 30 September 2022.
The webinar expounded on the definition of Islamic finance and its development’s political and economic contexts, leading to its impact on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the global financial system.
Invited speaker Mr. Kartiko Adi Wibowo from the Faculty of Economics of Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (UNIMUS), Indonesia, spearheaded the dialogue, explaining Islamic finance through the lens of international political economy.
Ateneo de Davao University’s students, instructors, and organizations, such as Ateneo Islamic Studies Students Association, attended the program. AISSO’S external partner organizations, such as the Halal Research And Training Center-Mindanao State University-GSC, were also present at the conference.
This event was the culminating activity of the IS Month celebration with the theme, “Braving the Beyond: Seeing the International in the Personal.”
