The Ateneo Internationalization for Mindanao (AIM) Office continues to advocate for sui generis leaders among its international students through various extracurricular activities. These initiatives are in tandem with the AIM Office’s mandate to support and assist international students with university admissions and immigration requirements. The Panag-uban Leadership Camp aims to promote holistic development among international students, instilling the values of a Mindanawon leader and fostering global citizenship despite diversity.

From 31 May to 01 June 2024, this year’s Panag-uban Leadership Camp centered around the theme “Bridging Borders, Building Futures,” which seeks to enhance camaraderie across different cultures and backgrounds while encouraging future growth. Panag-uban equipped international students with the necessary tools and opportunities to create their organization’s mission and vision and to plan and initiate projects and activities beneficial to their group.

The invited lecturers were tasked with preparing students, honing their leadership skills, and boosting their creativity. Ms. Gwyneth Marie M. Vasquez delivered the first lecture, “Mindanawon Leadership: Cultivating Unique Leaders for and within Mindanao.” She discussed leadership in the context of Mindanao, inspiring students to realize their potential for positive change and develop their leadership qualities. This was followed by a workshop that encouraged students to identify their leadership styles and reflect on the influence of their cultural backgrounds. On the second day, Ms. Fatima Pauline R. Malate presented “Building Futures: Pioneering the Groundwork for the Organization of International Students.” Her lecture was followed by a workshop aimed at helping international students lay the foundation for their organization, which is planned for the 2025-2026 academic year. The activities allowed students to brainstorm potential programs for their organization. The camp also included team-building and solidarity activities during the two-day, one-night event.
