The Ateneo Internationalization for Mindanao (AIM) Office organized the Panag-uban Leadership Camp for Ateneo de Davao University international students last 01-02 April 2023. The camp provided the opportunity for students to develop their leadership skills, build camaraderie, and learn about Mindanao’s history and culture. The two-day and one-night program took place at Malagos Garden Resort in Baguio District, Davao City, on April 1-2, 2023.

Through intercultural dialogue sessions, lectures, and activities facilitated by our resource speakers, Mr. Jopriz M. Bueno and Mr. Amiel Jay V. Lopez, the international students gained a deeper appreciation and respect for diverse cultures and backgrounds while understanding the sui generis leadership for Mindanao. The leadership camp encouraged global citizenship and inspired international students to become more engaged and responsible leaders in their own communities. By acknowledging the importance of understanding the local context, the camp aimed to foster more meaningful and impactful leadership among students.

The event also provided a great avenue for the attendees to cooperate with team members and build friendships. A chance for them to get to know other international students better and learn from them. Some participants shared that the experience allowed them to take a break from the city and appreciate the arts during the Panag-uban. One attendee was particularly impressed by the artwork shown during the program, which also allowed them to see how different people can interpret one meaning differently.

The AIM Office is deeply grateful to everyone who made the Panag-uban Leadership Camp 2023 possible, despite the unprecedented challenges posed by the pandemic. Your unwavering support and commitment have made this program a resounding success. We look forward to more opportunities like this that foster cross-cultural learning and friendship.
