The Ateneo de Davao University, through the Ateneo Internationalization for Mindanao (AIM) Office, participated in the 2023 EduCanada Pathways to Partnerships: Higher Education Forum held in Makati Diamond Residences, Legaspi Village, Makati City last 08 March 2023.

The EduCanada conference provided opportunities for participating institutions to learn more about Canada’s higher education sector and its approach towards internationalization, education delivery, and research and explore potential linkages with Canadian universities and colleges. The event was composed of delegates from various Philippine Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), private and public agencies, and representatives from Canadian institutions. The AIM Office was represented by one of its Program Officers, Ms. Lyd Ejira Ducusin.

Ambassador of Canada to the Philippines, His Excellency David Hartman, delivered his opening remarks and provided an overview of Canada’s higher education sector. From the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Atty. Lily Freida M. Milla, CESO IV, delivered a welcome message and showcased the recent educational milestones between Canada and the Philippines.

Ms. Anne Christensen, Director of Development and Partnerships from the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), who joined via video conference, presented the trends and future of internationalization in Canada and CBIE’s best initiatives and collaborative programs. Also joining us virtually from Colleges and Institutes Canada, Ms. Milica Njegovan highlighted in her presentation the approach of Canadian colleges, institutes, and polytechnics to establishing international partnerships, delivering micro-credentials, and enriching applied research. Lastly, Ms. Rym Cheriet, Senior International Relations Officer of Universities Canada, further discussed Canadian universities’ excellence in education and research and their efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Aside from the presentations, the participating Canadian HEIs extend their intent for partnership through a pitch session and networking meetings with the Philippine delegates.

The EduCanada Pathways to Partnerships: Higher Education Forum was successful as we were able to network with Canadian institutions for potential cross-border partnerships and link with Philippine institutions for their best practices and initiatives in internationalization.
