The Madaris Volunteer Program (MVP) visited three partner communities and madaris in Maguindanao del Sur–Mohammad Bin Al Dahirie Islamic Academy, Inc. in Bagan, Guindulungan, Mahaad Saadah Al-arabie Integrated School Inc. in Pagatin, Shariff Saydona Mustapha, and Mahaad Shaliheen Al-arabie Integrated School, Inc. in Pamalian, Shariff Saydona Mustapha–on 16 December 2023, where they distributed 300 special Sadaqah Packs provided by the Tanging Yaman Foundation, Inc. (Tanging Yaman).

Tanging Yaman, a non-profit organization based in the Philippines, is currently running the Christmas for Others 2023 project, and one of the donors in this initiative has specifically chosen Maguindanao, which is one of the mission areas of the MVP. As part of the project, 300 pre-identified indigent families in Maguindanao were selected as recipients of the Sadaqah Packs.

The term “Sadaqah” holds cultural significance within the Muslim community, representing acts of charity and benevolence towards others. This engagement is proof that charity/sadaqah transcends the boundaries of different religions, especially in this season of advent.

The distribution event in Maguindanao was led by the MVP staff, Mr. Regin Ruis B. Olivers, Ms. Tessa Mae D. Alison, and Mr. Khevin D. Pepito. The Sadaqah Packs, provided through Tanging Yaman’s initiative, play a significant role in fostering a spirit of giving and community support during the holiday season.

The MVP and its partners would also like to extend our gratitude to the Arrupe Office of Social Formation for volunteering in the preparation of the Sadaqah Packs.

May the spirit of giving break barriers that will allow us to discover that there may be different religions, but at the very core, we are all creations of God invited to spread the message of peace, hope, joy, compassion, and love.
