MINDANAO STUDY VISITS
Mindanao Study Visit is a short-term educational immersion program that is open to students, faculty and staff members of AIM’s partner higher education institutions who are looking to expand their cultural horizons by learning more about Mindanao. The program features week-long study tours and site visits with various local private industries, non-government organizations, and partner communities and advocacy groups. The program fosters learning through immersion and is designed to bridge gaps in the global narrative in featuring Mindanao.
Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) has cultivated a supportive network of local community partners who work with the University in giving a warm Mindanawon welcome to guests who would like to engage the locals in dialogue and in opportunities to learn from each other while in immersion.
The Study Visits aim to:
- Provide an inviting avenue for cultural learning through immersion to international guests and partners who wish to know more about Mindanao;
- Foster a more intimate understanding between international guests and the local partner communities through bonding over shared advocacies and intercultural appreciation; and
- Deepen the sense of global citizenship and interconnectedness among the international and local community participants.
This program consists of orientations, learning sessions for cultural contextualization, and site visits. Depending on the vision of the guests, the itinerary can also include a city tour, lectures from local artists, homestays, and immersion with the indigenous peoples of Mindanao. The staple duration is around seven (7) days, but again, depending on the study visit goals of the guests, the duration can be extended or shortened a couple days.
The accommodations and meals will be covered by the registration fee, duly arranged by the AIM Office. Upon finishing the study visit program, the guests are given a certificate of participation by the local partner institutions.
