ZAMBOANGA CITY\u2013Anthropology students at the Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) showcased their academic prowess at the 45th Ugnayang Pang Agham-tao (UGAT), International Conference held in Ateneo de Zamboanga on November 9-11, 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n Fourth-year undergraduate students Maica Lapuz, Sean Lacorte, Grace Solante, and Angelo Tilucan and third-year masters students Amiel Lopez and Eva Marie Maboloc’s researches were one of the 202 accepted papers at the UGAT Conference. While Tilucan and Lapuz\u2019s papers focused on themes revolving around tribal leadership, Solante and Lacorte\u2019s researches delved into the topics of development, roads, and migration. <\/span><\/p>\n The said papers were the fruit of their two-month immersive fieldwork in Cabanglasan, Bukidnon. <\/span><\/p>\n Meanwhile, masters students Amiel Lopez and Eva Maboloc shared their research on climate change knowledge, experiences, and responses to climate change of the Sama Badjaus and pretend Facebook identities among the Matigsalug, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n Solante\u2019s research, ‘Discourse and Practices of Urbanization-Development in Rural to Rural Migration,’\u00a0 was conferred 2nd Place in the UGAT E. Arsenio Manuel Student Paper Competition. <\/span><\/p>\n The research papers not only showcased the students\u2019 academic excellence but also, highlighted their dedication to understanding and addressing complex socio-cultural issues. Their efforts underscored the significance of immersive fieldwork experiences in shaping informed perspectives within the realm of anthropology.<\/span><\/p>\n UGAT is the Anthropological Association of the Philippines.
