The Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) – through its Ateneo Internationalization for Mindanao Office (AIM) and Anthropology Department – and Nipissing University (NU), North Bay, Ontario, Canada successfully conducted a virtual International Learning Session (ILS) on Alienation and Reconciliation last 16 September 2022 (Philippines)\/ 15 September 2022 (Ontario, Canada).<\/span><\/p>\n The discussion was led by Dr. Carly Dokis and Dr. Carly Reade – Associate Professors of Anthropology at Nipissing University. Dr. Dokis is the author of Where the Rivers Meet: Development and Participatory Management in the Sahtu Region, Northwest Territories, and co- editor of the book Subsistence Under Capitalism: Historical and Contemporary Perspectives. On the other hand, Dr. Davis\u2019 research and teaching interests are in the area of Environmental Anthropology, including the study of Extractive Industries, Protected Areas, Endangered Species, and Fisheries and Aquaculture; the Anthropology of Death and Mourning; and Anthropological Theory.<\/span><\/p>\n During the talk, the lead discussants drew out some of the processes that have contributed to alienation of many Canadians from those impacted by their actions in the Capitalocene and the ways in which they are linked to global webs of social disintegration and ecological devastation.<\/span><\/p>\n To further enrich the discussion, two esteemed reactors joined in the learning session. The reactors were <\/span>Dr. Penelope C. Sanz – a faculty member of Ateneo de Davao University\u2019s Anthropology Department and the Managing Editor of the Engaged Scholar Journal (Saskatchewan, Canada) – and Ms. Kristine Mae P.
