The Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) joined Jesuit higher education leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region at the 2026 Annual Meeting of Chief Executive Officers of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities in Asia Pacific (AJCU-AP). The meeting was held from 23-27 August 2026 at Politeknik ATMI Surakarta in Indonesia. <\/span><\/p>\n

Representing ADDU were Fr. Antonio M. Basilio, SJ, Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Community Engagement, and Mr. Romulo Vinci R. Bueza, Executive Assistant to the President and Director of the Ateneo Internationalization for Mindanao (AIM) Office. <\/span><\/p>\n

The gathering convened 31 chief executives and institutional representatives from 16 Jesuit educational institutions. ADDU was among five Philippine Jesuit universities represented at the meeting, which provided a platform for leaders to exchange experiences, strengthen partnerships, and develop collaborative responses to challenges affecting higher education. <\/span><\/p>\n

As part of the meeting\u2019s institutional and program updates, ADDU delivered a report on Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL). The University\u2019s contribution highlighted COIL as an important approach to internationalization, enabling students and faculty from institutions in different countries to collaborate through technology-supported academic activities without requiring physical mobility. <\/span><\/p>\n

Through the report, ADDU contributed to regional discussions on expanding accessible and inclusive international learning opportunities. Its participation also demonstrated the University\u2019s commitment to building meaningful academic partnerships and incorporating intercultural collaboration into teaching and learning.<\/span><\/p>\n

A major component of the program was the full-day workshop, \u201cLeading Universities in the Age of AI.\u201d Fr. Fernando Ponce, SJ, of the Jesuit Curia in Rome, opened the session with a presentation on leading with Magnificas Humanitas,<\/em> emphasizing the importance of preserving the human and mission-centered character of Jesuit education amid rapid technological change. <\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Galvin Ngo of the Ateneo Institute for the Science and Art of Learning and Teaching (Ateneo SALT Institute) at Ateneo de Manila University delivered the keynote address on artificial intelligence and education. He also facilitated a workshop that deepened participants\u2019 understanding of AI and encouraged thoughtful engagement with its implications for teaching, learning, leadership, and university life. <\/span><\/p>\n

The meeting also featured updates from AJCU-AP task forces working on integral ecology, artificial intelligence, mental health and spiritual well-being, and democracy. Participants discussed other regional initiatives, including the Service-Learning Program, Global Leadership Program, China Partnership Committee, Magis Credentials, and Ignatian Leadership in Higher Education Training.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through the participation of Fr.
